DISCUSSION QUESTION
1-How do the content sound differ from ambient sound?
when are music and spesial sound effects
considered content sound ?
content sounds furnish information.narration and
dialog are content sounds .
music and other sounds can also considered content
sound if they are part of the topic itself..for example ,
the sound of a motor would be content sound
if it the wre used to distingush between diffrent
engine problem.
Ambition sound include backgruond sounds and special
effects.Ambinent soounds reinforce message and set the mood .
2-what factor determine the quality of the sound file ?
Recording and playback enviroment and equipmnet have
a huge impact on the quality of sound.
several other factors determine the quality of a sound ,including
rate and resolution.
3-why isnt it always best to use the highest sampling rate
and highest resolution when recording sound files?
A higher sampling rate produce a higher quality sound .
the disadvantage of a higher sampling rate is sound file with higher
sampling rate require stoorage cpacity.
again three is a trde of in recording sound with higher
resolution .
A sound file with higher resolution is larger than a
file with a lower resolution.
4-What steps are involve in producing digital audio?
PLANNING :
regardless of whether you intend to use prerecorde
audio or record your own ,it is very important to
plan what, when, where, and how sound will be incorepted
in the web site.
RECORDING :for simple recording project such as
narration a microphine an da computer can serve
as recod unit.
PROCESSING: after the sound has been sampled or diigitaized
it will probobly need to be modified .unwanted noise
pauses ,and other mistake may need to be removed .
fadein and fade out ,background music ansd special
effect may need to be added.
copy, move, mix and ... may be needed.
ASSEMBLING :
DELIVERING :In prepare sound for delivery
consider the number of differnt sound ti be delivered
how they willl be delivered .and whom they will be delivered.
5-why is high quality microphone important
when you are recording sound for a web site?
the microphone is the mostimportant factor in any soud system .
the microphone is desine to precisly and correct to pick up and
amplify incoming acustic wave or harmonic
and conver them to electrical signal.
depending on its sensivity the microphone will
pickmup the sound that comes to it .
the atribute of the original soound are forever lost
if the microphone does not capture them.
mimicrophone sensivity is directly realted to how much
feedback is around it .
6-what is the differnce between destructive and non destructive
sound processing ?
some digital processing methods change the original sound.
these methods are considered destructive
because they permanentlyalter original sound .
nondestructive sound processing methods
maintain its original file.A copy of the original file
can be manipulate by playing it louder or softer
combining it with other sounds on other track
or modify it in other ways.
using nondestructive processing the
original file remain untouchable in case it is needed latre.
7-what are some of the advantages or key feture of the
different tools decribeed in this chapter?
PEAK is a leading digital audio editor for the mac.it enable u
to record ,edit and playback 16 bit 44 khz multitarack suondtrack.
using peak you can modify many properties including
volume ,pithc ,and tempo.peak support a variety of file formates.
SOUND FORGE : is very similar to peak.
it is a great intodution to digital
audio editing .
you can record yoour own audio and then
enhance it with different effects andprocesses.
it have easy to use interface.
it can open mp3 files and create streaming aodio content.
PRO TOOLS: it is the absolute standard in digital audio editing
with open architecture for theird party plug-ins.
protool is a complete ,cross platform package

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1.what is the different between analog and digital video? How do you
digitize analog video? (pages:182 && 183)
a: analog video can be captured and converted to a digital format; digital
formats do not need to be converted.
analog video must be digitize or converted to a digital format befor
the computer can understand and manipulate it.digital video is video that
is already in a digital format.
although digital video is becoming increasingly common, analog video still
has a strong position in the world of video editing.
analog video is still being used and a huge number of existing video clips
are already stored in an analog format. Another big advantage to using analog
video is the wide abundance of equipment currently available for recording and
plying videotape.
b: VIDEO_CAPTURE CARDS are used to convert analog video to a digital format.
video_capture cards are placed into an open expansion slot on the main board
of the computer. They may also be connected to an external port on the outside
of the system unit. In addition, some system come whit video_capture already
included.once installed, video_capture cards enable you to connect a camcorder,
VCR, TV, or live feed to the computer. Special software allows the images to be
sorted as graphic files or compressed as full_motion video clips.
2.what factors determine the quality of the video file?
many of the same factors that affect the quality of still images and animation
also determine the quality of video. to transfer video clips between software
programs, the video_editing industry has established systems of measurments that
address these quality issues. to effectively work whit video, it is important that
you also understand these standard systems of measurement.
3.How do copyrightlaws affect the use of video on the web?
answer: copyrights laws affect the video footage you can incorporate into your web site. it is partiqularly important to follow these laws .if you plan to use the video footage in a commericially prepared site. if you wish to use video footage within your web site always get permission from the video grapher or publisher
4. what are some of Adobe premeire's key features?

*************************************************************
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. Why is planning important to god web design?
The key to designing any web site begins at the planning phase .a plan provides the structure for all phase, including the design phase .after a strategy and planning documents have been developed, and while the multimedia elements are being prepared, the overall look and feel of the site should begin to take shape.
Again, the planning documents, including the storyboard, flowchart, and scripts, will serve as the foundation for the design of the project. Although these documents should always be considered works in progress, the design strategy should be solid. These documents serve as perpetual reference guide that will help the multimedia team stay focused.
2. What factors should be considered when designing the user interface?
A well_designed interface must be trabnceparent to the user. Design and visual apeal are in integral part of the user experiance.
A well-design site must look good and it must be functional. Function and form can not be sepated.
users wan quick and easy access to the content at a web site. if you can give the users a sense of control, yiu will maximize the number of pleasurable experiences they have at your web site and they will return again and again. you can also optimize user access
and control by making your pages quick to load. minimizing links to context.establishing a sense of context, providing an opportunity for feedback, and giving access to everyone.
As a web designer you cannot take color for granted. Color conveys information and sets mood or tone of the web site. There aremany psychological implications of color. before you choose a color schemeit is imprative that you condut some research on the colors you intended to use and test your color scheme on a group of users who are representativeof your target audience.
as a beginning designer there are several principles that you should follow if you want to create an effective color scheme.many web authoring programs include preset color scans and themes that offer a great starting point and source of inspiration. How ever they can appear amateurish. Professional websites are generally designed from the ground up.
3. What are five ways to optimize user access and control?
1. Quick to load
2. Minimize links
3. Sense of context
4. Opportunity for feedback/dialog
5. Equal access
4. How is the color scheme to web-page design? What are some basic guidelines that beginners should follow when they are trying to select a color scheme for a web site?
Receptors in our eyes translate different wavelengths of light to our brains, which then interpret the light and identify it as a distinct color. In addition to just identifying colors, our brains pass judgment on colors based on both instincts and knowledge. This is important information to a designer. Color evokes emotion and associations.
Before you choose a color scheme, it is imperative that you conduct some research on the colors you intend to use and to test your color scheme on a group of users who are representative of your target audience. Some designers prefer to select colors from a color wheel, while others arrive at color combinations by looking at nature.
5. What is a metaphor? Give some examples of metaphors that are used on the web.
A metaphor is a figurative representation that links the content of your web site to an established mental model. For example, the established metaphor for e-commerce is the electronic shopping cart.
Well-designed and targeted metaphors can be powerful communication tools. Metaphors can be an effective way to make complex ideas easier to understand. They help designers better understand users. In addition, by serving as the focal point of the site they provide inspiration for designers who can gear the content and interface of the site around a common idea. Poorly designed and inappropriate metaphors are merely distasteful and unnecessary. In fact, some concepts do not have an appropriate metaphor, and an inappropriate or incomplete metaphor can lead the user astray.
6. What are cascading style sheets and how are they beneficial to a web designer?
Cascading style sheet are e set of type specifications that can be applied to a block of text to a single web page, or to an entire web locate.
Cascading style sheets (css) have made type design, layout, and consistency easier to implement than ever before. Css gives you the power and consistency to control the element on your web site. Using css you can create styles that contain a variety of formatting specification.
7. What are the 5 fundamental design guidelines that apply to webpage design?
1. Simple and consistent, 2.independent and functional,
3. Worthwhile content, 4.balanced layout, 5.unified piece
8. What are some important design factors that apply to text, graphics, animation, sound, and video?
Text is still an incredibly useful and viable component for conveying information. At the same time, on a webpage, less text is usually better.
Graphics should be designed to speak to the nonverbal, intuitive side of the brain. Because different monitors and platforms display images differently, it as important to design images whit the screen in mind. Quality images should be created
Or selected to reinforce the message and communicate the purpose of the website to the audience.
Animation that is well designed and use effectively can be cute and informative. Animation that is poorly designed and poorly incorporated in to the environment can be annoying and downright detrimental to the success of the site. You must design animation that is appropriate and geared toward the target audience.
Sounds add another dimension to a website and make use of another sense. Incorporate sound files that are high quality, appropriate, and consistent with the goals of the website .in web based multimedia applications, sound files should be clearly labeled so that users can choose to listen to only those files that are compatible with their system.
Video can be both stimulating and informative. You should use it when and where it is appropriate. Because the inclusion of video requires significant bandwith, powerful processors, and large amounts of storage, you should not use it if it does not add to the site.
9. What are some extras that you should consider including at your website?
Links, faqs, contact information, last modified date, copyright notice

*************************************************************
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
1.What are the roles and responsibilities of the web master? How has this position changed?
a)when the web was first introduced ,webmasters were responsible for
everything, they designed ,developed and maintained the web site.
b)because many web sites have grown to be very complex and
sophisticated, the jobs within this industry have become mush more specialized and
the creation of web_based multimedia application is generally a team
effort.today, you are more likely to finde web designers who develop the
look and feel of the site and web developers who do the programming and
make every thing work the way it should.the web master is generally the
person responsible for maintaining the web server.
2.What are the four different methods used to create web pages?
writting your own html code
using :
converters
editors
authoring programs
3.What is HTML? Why is it important to learn HTML?
a)html stands for hypertext markup language, which is the standard
language used to creat web pages.html was designed to be a plateform
independent language that enables different computers running different
operating systems and using different browsers to display the same page.
b)every web page is ultimately an html document ragardless of what it
includes and how it was created.therefore,if you plan to design or
develop web pages, you should understand at least the fundementals of html .
4.What are conversion tools? What are some advantages and disadvantages of using these tools?
a)conversion tools translate your existing document formats into html
,in other words ,these programs make it possible for you to publish
your existing documents on the web without knowing a single html tag.
b)ADVANTAGE:there are many advantages to using convertion tools.if
you already know the ins and outs of a program ,there is no need to learn
a new program in order to prepare your documents for the web nor do you
have to buy a separate program to author your web pages.in addition to
a straight conversion ,most of these programs now include features such
as templates that allow you to enhance your documents for the web while
still using the common features of a program that you already
know.using conversion tools ,many of the documents that you have already created
for the print world can be quickly published to the web by merely
saving the file in a different format and then uploading it to a web
server.as you can see conversion tools are convenient and can be real
time-savers.
DISADVANTAGES:althuogh conversion tools make it very easy for you to
publish your existing pages to the web,as well as use familiar features
to creat new web pages.they do have limitations much of the formatting
that you have included in your document will be altered.fonts
,margins, and indentations may be changed.this occurs because when your document
is converted to html, all of html markup tags are automatically
added,if there is no html markup tag and attribute to exactly match the
formatting you have specified with another application ,your web page will be
altered.in addition, most conversion tools write extraneous html code
into your pages making them less efficient than pages written directly in
html.this unnecessary code can also make troubleshooting problematic if
you decide to tweak your html source code after it has been converted
from another application.
5.What are editors? What are some advantages and disadvantages of
Using editors? What are some key features found in the better-known editors?
a)editors make designing web pages simple and practical editors
enable you to creat and design web pages using menus and buttons on toolbars
that represent html tags.
b)ADVANTAGES:a sigle click with a converter or web_authoring program
can creat a variety of code, however it may not be generating the code
you expect.html editors let you build great web sites in less time while
maintaining pure html code, unlike converters and authoring
programs, editors do not add any code to the html page other than what is necessary
for display through a browser ,extraneous code increase page
size, reduces performance ,adds to page complexity ,and hinders editing.these
programs are created for serious web developers who want clean code
fast, they give you precise layout control and total design flexibility, while
delivering the latest web technologies ,such as dhtml, cascading style
sheets, javascript, asp, java ,perl, and xml.in addition ,most of these tools
provide checking ans validation features that ensure the functionality
of your web pages before you upload them to a web server.
DISADVANTAGE:unless you know html, these tools won't do much for
you, they are designed to make web_page development and editing with html a
faster, easier process than typing it in from the ground up using a text
editor, however, without a basic understanding of html ,you'll be lost
inside an editor, other than needing to understand html to effectively use
the features of an editor there are no other disadvantages to using
them, these are great tools and obvious choice for building a
clean,efficient,well-designed web site.
c)some of the better-known web page editors include homesite for the
windows platform and bbedit for the macintosh.
6.What are web-authoring programs? What are the advantages and disadvantages associated with these programs?
web page authoring programs use a graphical interface instead of forcing you to type or to choose html mark up tags and attributes from menus.however rather than converting a nonnative html file to html, thyr are designed for the specific purpose of developing web pages.so the native file format generated from these programs is html.
advanteges:
they're huge time consuming, you don't have to learn html.they offer WYSIWYG features ,so you can see the result of formatting immediately.
disadvantage:
they do'nt always allow you to do exactly what you want to do or what you could do with html.
many of these programs also generate extraneous proprietary code.and they're also may not be as up-to-date as html.
7.What are some key features found in most Web-authoring programs?
8.How does Netscape composer differ from the Higher-end Web-authoring programs?
netscape composer is a very simple ,easy-to-use web authoring tool from netscape.it doesn't offer the extensive features set found in the other web-outhoring programs.if you already use navigator and need to create a few simple web pages, composer is an excellent choice.it's not designed to manage entire web sites.it's designed to work with single pages.it dosen't come with predesigned templates or graphics.composer's editing screen contains a typical menu structure and two toolbars, one for basic html and another for formatting.it provides supports for basic html features such as links, images and tablesbut not for forms and frames.

*************************************************************
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1-how do programming an d scripnting languages extend the capabilities of HTML?
for the most part there is nothing dynamic or interactive about the HTMLfile sent. they are simple text files. if you want your web pages to do something more dynamic or interactive you have to make a request to run a program outside the web page and possibly even on
a different web server.
programming languages for the web are used to write executable programs that are accessed or called from an HTML file,in other words, web pages are not programs, but programs can be called from within web pages. these pages are downloaded from web servers to web clients where they are displayed.
scripts extend the capabilities of HTML.they reside within the HTML code between the <SCRIPT></SCRIPT> container of a web page. although scipts can be stored on the server, most scripting languages are used to write program for the client-side.in fact the term clien side program refers to uncompiled scripts that are processed and interpreted by the browser on the user's computer.you can use scripts to create rollovers, automatically show the date and time, size windows, open new windows, and detect which browser is being used to access the page.creating interactive web pages used to be more difficult to develop and administer before scripting languages.
2-what are the roles and responsibilities of the web programmer ?
web programmers or developers write the code that makes the web site interactive and responsive to the user.programmers write lines of code taht create interactivity and animation, define structure, and respond to the to user actions.web programmers are the foundation of the technology behind the project; they make everything work the way it should.
3. waht are the difference between markup languages, scripting languages, and programming languages ?
Web pages are text files that are stored on a Web server, which is a computer connected to the Internet. The web server waits for a request for a file and then respons by sending the file to the browser on the client's computer. For the most part there is nothing dynamic or interactive about the HTMLfile sent. they are simple text files. if you want your web pages to do something more dynamic or interactive you have to make a request to run a program outside the web page and possibly even on a different web server.
scripts extend the capabilities of HTML.they reside within the HTML code between the <SCRIPT></SCRIPT> container of a web page. although scipts can be stored on the server, most scripting languages are used to write program for the client-side.in fact the term clien side program refers to uncompiled scripts that are processed and interpreted by the browser on the user's computer.
In most cases, scripting languages are not az poweful as programming languages. However, they are also not as dificult to learn
A markup language is a full set of instructions that can be used to comperhensively describe the structural format of a piece of text. Using markup languages, tags are added to the electronic document to specify how the content will look.
4. what are some of the different markup languages commonly used on the web ?what is the general purpose of each ?
DHTML
Dynamic Hypertext Language (DHTML) is nothing more than a group of technologies that are combined to create greater interactivity and page layout flexibility that is possible with HTML alone. DHTML is really more than a markup language. It includes HTML, JavaScript, cascading style sheet (CSS), and the Document Object Model (DOM).
VRML
Virtual reality (VR) on the Web is created using Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML), which is pronounced vermal. VRML is used to describe three-dimensional scenes on the Web and id standard for 3D Web content. VRML enables Web-page developers to create 3D objects that users can manipulate with a pointing device such as a mouse, trackball, or joystick.
SMIL
Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL), pronounced smile, is a simple, platform-natural mark-up language designed to let Web designers and developers at all skill levels schedule audio, video, test, and graphic files across a timeline without having to master development tools or complex programming languages.
XML
Extensible Markup Language (XML) is more of a Metalanguage than markup language. XML is a text-based language derived from SGML and spearheaded by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). It allows web developers and programmers to define their own markup languages.
WML
WML stands for Wireless Markup Language. It is a standard based on the Handheld Device Markup Language (HDML), which, in turn, is a subset of HTML. It is also considered an XML application. WML delivers a limited subset of markup properties with web text, based on W3Cs guidelines for mobile access. In essential, WML is to hand-held devices what HTML is to a standard Web browser.
5-what are some key features of javascript,VBscript, and PHP ?
JavaScript was developed by Netscape to extend the capabilities of standard HTML. JavaScript enables you to add interactivity and dynamic content to your Web pages. To use JavaScript, you can either insert script code directly into your HTML page or you can call it from the HTML file. Similar to JavaScript, Microsoft VBScript is lightweight version of Microsoft Visual Basic that has become a widely used server-side scripting language for windows environment. Unlike JavaScript and VBScript, PHP hypertext preprocessor is a server side HTML-embedded scripting language. What distinguishes PHP from client-side scripts is that the code is executed on the server.
6-what are some key features of Perl,Java,Visual Basic, and Lingo?Per is a powerful and flexible programminh language and extensively for building CGI applications. This program is also popular because there are Perl in tepreters for just about every operating system on which a Web server is found.
Java is Sun Microsystem's full-fledged, object-oriented programming language. It is used to build applets, which are small programs designed to be executed within another application or from a Web page. Java is a compiled language and should not be confused with JavaScript.
Lingo extends the capabilities built into Macromedia's Director giving you more precise contorol over the action within a Director or Shockwave movie.
VB is a high-level programming language for creating server-side applications that are easily accessible from any Web browser.
7-what is activeX?
ActiveX is an extention of object linking and embedding (OLE).within a web page that is activex-enabled, you can link or embed object from any application that support ActiveX. In essence, the ActiveX component enables you to link to documents or applications and then drop them into your web page.
Unlike java, ActiveX id not platform independent. ActiveX works best in a windows environment. Therefore, it isnt the versatile as Java and some of the other programming languages mentioned above. Although ActiveX is fine for intranets where the platform is likely to be more consistent or at least more controllable, Java is a more adaptable language for internet.
