Sedayedel has valid points which Nerd points out in his second post too. So, as we seem to agree, making a huge leap in one field (such as nano tech) even if it is possible, is not a solution. The better way -and the very hard challenge- is to build social and ecoinomical infra structures that support a well-rounded improvement in our use and development of technology.
I streesed once before in the forum that TECHNOLOGY is totaly different than THEORETICAL KNOWLEGE and SCIENCE. Our society is still far from a technology-concious socity and cannot digest a high tech economy. Also, a high-tech economy is NOT NECESSARY to have a rich and modern society. Contries like UAE, Switzerland and Canada are examples of this. While Switzerland is an advanced country, it's main source of income is banking industry not high tech. A major source of income for Canada is natural resources (agriculture, lumber, meat etc) not high-tech.
Another issue is "emplyment". we need to emply our youth. This can be done only in an all-round aconomy which has all levels of jobs (both simple and very technical). Advancing in nuclear physics or nano tech doesn't help here
